As promised yesterday, here are a few more ways to create a profit stream from your RSS feed, blog and website:

Amazon Products

You can earn affiliate commissions on Amazon products by customizing and placing one or more of their targeted RSS product feeds on your site. Not just a single product advertisement, but a whole collection of targeted products, all of which earn you a commission. Say you have a site targeted towards owners and potential owners of digital cameras. You could create a customized Amazon RSS feed which earns you commissions from the sales of books, e-books (yes, you can sell your own e-books through Amazon too), audio books, DVDs and videos about digital cameras, as well as actual digital cameras and all of their accessories. Other suppliers besides Amazon are beginning to provide customizable RSS product feeds, but Amazon is the leader right now, just as they were with affiliate programs many years ago. Ads In Your Feed

Run other types of advertisements in your RSS feed. You can embed banner ads, sound and video directly into your RSS feed content, so that it appears in people’s feed readers before or after they click on your article’s headline. There are also services emerging which will insert ads into your RSS feed for you. Feedburner is experimenting with this (if you indicate that you want to provide ads, otherwise they don’t include any).

You really have to be careful about ads in your feed though. Consider who is reading your feed and whether they want to see a lot of advertising, especially ads which may not be directly related to your feed’s content. Most people appreciate RSS feeds versus email lists because they’re not loaded with advertising. If your ads annoy a reader, they can unsubscribe with a click or two and never look at your feed again. The best way to keep your readers and give them useful information while also advertising to them is to use subtle text ads and endorsements.

Cross-Promotion on eBay and Elsewhere

Cross-promote your sites, blogs, feeds and products everywhere you can. You could even use your RSS feed to advertise items that you’re auctioning on eBay, and draw readers into your auctions. Or you can use your auctions to promote your sites, blogs and feeds. Read Jim Cockrum’s excellent e-book, The Silent Sales Machine Hiding on eBay and its 2005 follow-on e-book, How to Turn Auction Traffic Into Cash, about cross-promoting your auction and non-auction products (including e-books and websites) in ways you may never have thought of. eBay gets an insane amount of traffic every day. Learn how to direct even a tiny portion of that traffic to your site and your opportunities for profit will multiply before your eyes.
